Brunk Auctions is proud to present the Collection of Jerold D. Krouse of Natchez, Mississippi. With a discerning eye, Mr. Krouse assembled an exceptional collection of Irish furniture and silver, as well as American furniture. A lifetime of collecting yielded the finest examples of highly carved George II and Philadelphia Chippendale, tables, chairs, a bonnet-top chest-on-chest, and other choice furnishings, coupled with a Thomas Pitts silver epergne, George Wicks George II silver baskets, a George Wicks silver tureen, a Jonathan Swift tea caddy set, as well as many other museum quality silver objects. The common thread throughout the collection is the exquisite hand-carved furniture echoed by the ornate figural motifs adorning the silver making this collection one that is unique.

Brunk Auctions will present The Krouse Collection, featuring an extraordinary ensemble of mid‑18th‑century European furniture and decorative arts assembled by noted collectors Betty Jo and Jerold Krouse. Assembled over the decades from the best sources, the collection features the finest in eighteenth century Irish and American furniture, silver, and accessories. With a penchant for fine carving and chasing, the collector focused one eye on the best of the George II period in Ireland, assembling one of the best Irish collections in America. The other eye was focused on the height of the Rococo in Philadelphia, and with the guidance of expert Alan Miller, he purchased some of the most important furniture of that period available in the 1990s and 2000s.

Jerold Krouse, called by advisor Alan Miller “an aesthetically driven collector, culturally literate, well informed, eccentric, and wonderful,” brought together this important collection of Irish, English, Philadelphia, and New York masterpieces under a single roof in Natchez, Mississippi. This residence was the subject of a feature titled “Mississippi Rococo” in The Magazine Antiques (January 2011), showcasing both the beauty and importance of The Krouse Collection in the American South.
