Brunk Auctions is a private auction house located in Asheville, NC. For over 40 years we have been offering high quality antiques and fine art worldwide. From our offices, we travel around the South and Eastern seaboard to collect and safely transport objects back to our gallery. We have 25 auctions per year, offering all types of items ranging from fine art paintings, silver, jewelry, coins, sculptures, furniture, and all types of objects. We pride ourselves on treating items with respect to ensure safe arrival to our gallery, as well as helping to manage the internal flow of products through the auction process within our gallery. Offering an hourly wage, health insurance (after 90 days), 401K and yearly bonus plan.

Responsibilities include but not limited:

  • Safely handle, pack, unpack, and transport items to our gallery with our fleet of 4 Sprinter vans
  • Assist with set up and break down of auction exhibitions throughout the year
  • Work with Catalogers to ensure the proper display and presentation of items
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the gallery and storage areas
  • Adhere to proper safety protocols and handling procedures
  • Assist with incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Provide support during auction previews, events, and other special projects as needed

Qualifications:

  • Previous art handling in an auction house, antique business, art gallery or museum preferred but not required
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle delicate and valuable items safely
  • Physical capability to safely lift and move heavy furniture items
  • Ability to work well in a team environment is crucial
  • Overtime required, travel required with overnight visits to pick up locations

Auction Specialist Furniture Cataloger

Full job description

This position is located in our Asheville, North Carolina Gallery. The primary responsibility of this role is the accurate and timely cataloging of Antique Furniture to be offered at public auction.

Duties include:

Initial review of furniture items, ascertaining appropriate auction avenue for sale, inspecting, and investigating items and reviewing comparable items from on-line resources to ascertain the best possible auction estimate and writing well detailed succinct and accurate catalog descriptions adhering to in-house cataloging guidelines within our computer software application.

Accompanying transportation team to on-site locations to assess items for auction and receipt those items for consignment. Assisting with clients bringing in objects to be assessed, explaining the auction process, and helping administer the receipting of items.

Overtime work and travel will be expected at certain times.

Qualifications:

Candidate should have a well-developed understanding and working knowledge of antique furniture periods and styles, along with familiarity of wood types and construction techniques. The candidate should possess a general interest in Art history, knowledge and/or familiarity with the auction/antique or art business, furniture styles, and a basic understanding of decorative arts

Candidate should possess an attention to detail, computer skills, attitude of a team player and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment by prioritizing their workload to meet deadlines.

Auction House Decorative Arts Cataloger Specialist

Full job description

The primary responsibility of this role is the accurate and timely cataloging of antique decorative arts objects through investigative research, market analysis of comparable objects, and writing online descriptions of objects for sale at public auction. Ascertaining the best possible monetary auction estimate for objects. Coordinating and organizing the Decorative Arts department with all incoming and in-process objects. Writing well detailed, succinct and accurate catalog descriptions adhering to in-house cataloging guidelines within our computer software application. Working closely with potential consignors, reviewing estates and compiling information from other Specialist departments and presenting those objects to potential clients. Accompanying transportation team to on-site locations to assess objects for auction and collect those objects for consignment. Being able to explain and present estimates of value to clients in a professional and timely manner. Dealing directly with clients delivering objects to be assessed, explaining the auction process, determining seller’s commissions, receipting objects, explaining and executing consignment contracts. Responsible for servicing clients from initial contact through the completion of the auction experience.

Requirements:

General knowledge of the antique/secondary marketplace, familiarity with decorative arts objects and an appreciation about discovering information. Exposure to the art world in general and the objects of material culture and their monetary worth. Detail oriented. Decision making skills, customer service oriented, computer/typing skills, and the ability to work well with others and in a fast-paced environment. Overnight travel required on an as needed basis. Salary commensurate with experience.
