Two Chinese Jizhou Glazed Stoneware Tea Bowls

possibly Southern Song dynasty, covered in a chocolate brown glaze, with darker brown trails decorated on the interior, 2-3/4 x 6-1/2 in.; conical bowl coated in dark brown glaze over red ware, the interior with tall colored streaks pulling down the rim, floral resist decoration, 2-1/4 x 4-5/8 in.

Note: A very similar Jizhou tea bowl with floral resist decoration can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 29.100.223. 


Provenance:Sotheby's Parke-Bernet, New York, NY, Lot 300 and 315, purchased May 1974 for $300 and $325 respectively (accompanied by copy of invoice); Private Collection, Durham, North Carolina
