Set 14 Gothic Revival Mahogany Dining Chairs

American, mid 19th century, possibly designed by A.J. Davis, two armchairs, upholstered arms, 12 side, each with red silk damask upholstery, 35-1/2 in.

Note:

A nearly identical chair by Alexander and Frederick Roux was included in 19th Century America, Furniture and Other Decorative Arts, The Metropolitan Museum exhibition catalog, 1970, no. 99.

Provenance:Historic Belmead Plantation, Powhatan County, Virginia

good overall condition, scattered repairs at leg attachments, surface losses, some infill, scattered surface wear, other typical flaws, modern upholstery with minor wear
