Pair Signed Louis XVI Painted, Carved Bergeres

stamped under chair rails "IB Lelarge" (Jean-Baptiste Lelarge III, French, 1743-1802 ), beech wood frames with gray paint and striped silk upholstery, padded armrests on down swept leaf carved supports, raised on tapered stop fluted legs, 37-1/2 x 28 x 25 in.

 

 

Provenance:Property deaccessioned by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc. to benefit the collections and acquisitions funds. This pair of Bergeres are not directly related to Thomas Jefferson or Monticello itself, and, therefore, falls outside of the Foundation’s collection scope

Condition:

repaired break to one leg, otherwise generally good, surface wear and paint losses, especially at edges, minor separations at joints, distress and one patch to seat rail at upper tacking line, some fading and stains to upholstery
