Ottoman Empire Jeweled Shishana Rifle

silvered with chasing, gilt accents, red and green stone decoration, octagonal Damascus barrel engraved with foliate scroll, miquelet lock, ball trigger, barrel 28 in., overall 42 in.

Note: This has been crafted in the style of similar firearms that would have been presented to Turkish sultans in the 18th century. The crescent moon and star design adorning the butt of the gun is an important aesthetic element in Ottoman culture. 

There is an Arabic numeral date of 1038 on the lock plate. This corresponds to a Gregorian calendar date of 1628.
