Ice Skating Hooked Rug

American, early 20th century, skating couple surrounded by children and a dog playing on the ice, holly leaves in upper corners, bottom of rug reads, "The Ice is Thin It Signifies How Soon Youth Fades & Pleasures Die", wool and cotton with cotton binding, stitched on to heavy cloth covered frame, 30-1/2 x 47-1/2 in.

Exhibited: "The Art of Figure Skating Through the Ages", Fenimore Museum, Cooperstown, New York, April 1 - December 31, 2017.
