Civil War Era Cap and Ball Musket

40 in. octagonal to round barrel, possibly a conversion, lock plate marked "1864" on end and with an eagle/US/ Whitney-ville", middle barrel band marked "58" on left side and "39.R.1.93", firing mechanism appears to work properly, butt stock tang marked "US",

barrel and bands extensively pitted, breech tang does not fit the stock, lock plate appears newer than barrel and bands, middle barrel band an obvious replacement and does not fit properly, a possible repair to stock forward of the trigger guard, no ramrod, cracks at butt plate
