Champion Black Labrador Retriever, Horton Rector, signed presumably verso original canvas with note attached verso stretcher with transcription "Painted from Mr. A de Winter's [sic] Champion Retriever Horton Rector/Heywood Hardy", oil on canvas, 15-7/8 x 20 in.; modern painted and parcel gilt wood frame, 18-3/4 x 22-7/8 in.
Note: Deemed one of the best flat-coated retrievers of the 20th century, Horton Rector was owned by Allen Shuter. The transcription on the label verso may have been misinterpreted.

lined with wax and linen, crackle, patch at bottom with associated retouch, other areas of old retouch at edges; frame with abrasions
