(Haitian, born 1914)

[Im'Mamou], signed lower right "A. Pierre", oil on canvas, 30-3/4 x 36-1/2 in.; wood frame, 32 x 37-3/4 in.

In this painting, voodou believers gather outdoors with offerings of food to make contact with the Loa. The loa were any number of intermediary spirits that were a connection to the "Good father" or Bondye. The boat may represent Agwe with his possible counterpart La Sirine with other Loa within the arches. Various Loa symbols are found in the foreground.
